CES & Mind Control

We've all seen films with super heroes in who can controol things with their minds, but soon this awesome ability will not just be for super heroes!

A product called MindFlex was revealed at CES (Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas) this year which enables the user to guide a levitating ball through a hoop using only his mind. See the video for a demonstration.

Just think of the capabilities this new technology holds. The maker of the Wii sais he sees video game consoles in the future relying on mind control. Could this mean the next Wii will be controlled by your mind like this MindFlex toy is?

Mind control wouldn't just be restricted to the realm of gaming. I can imagine that in the future the switching on and off of all electrical appliances could be done by mind power. Imagine if we could simply think "Toaster switch on" and it would happen. Of course something would have to be done about the bulky sensors you must attach to your head to pick up the theta signals emitted by your brain which allows the mind control technology to work, but a small sensor chip implanted into your skull would fix this problem wouldn't it?

I'll leave you to think of the moral issues of this!

Amazon MP3 Store v iTunes

Hi everyone. In this post I hope to help you to decide where you should buy your music online. I will compare the trusty iTunes with Amazon's new MP3 store.
First for some statistics:

Amazon
Songs = £0.59 ($0.79)
Top Albums = Around £3 ($5)
Millions of songs

iTunes
Songs = £0.79
Album = Price depends on album
Millions of songs

It is important to note that you can buy roughly 10 songs on Amazon for the price of 7 on iTunes and both sites have all the music you could possibly want, especially iTunes.

The Amazon MP3 Store is cheaper than iTunes and has the massive bonus of being DRM free. This basically means that you can download songs from Amazon and you can do whatever you like with them. There are no copyright issues. You can put the songs on any MP3 player or phone, even an iPod!
Songs downloaded on iTunes however can only be played on an iPod although Apple has plans to remove the DRM on millions of its songs in the future.
I personally prefer the layout of iTunes to the Amazon Store. iTunes has much better features because the store is linked with the media player so all you music can be bought and stored in the same place.

I conclusion I think I will buy my music from the Amazon MP3 Store from now because it is cheaper and DRM free. I will then transfer it to my iTunes music library and put it on my iPod.

Robot Land to be built in South Korea

So we all know that robots are the future. Whilst I don't necessarily think this is a good think, (that argument who need a whole new post but I might do it sometime) there is no denying the fact that in the future we will have robots such as we see in Sci-Fi films like Star Wars. Now up untill now I had thought that the age of robots was a long time away. However as I will explain, that is not so!

It turns out that in South Korea a robot city is being planned and that work will begin on it sometime in 2009! Supposedly it is going to cost roughly $530 million (£382 million). Now when I heard this I imgined a city not out of place in a Sci-Fi film which has hover cars, giant skyscrapers and robots doing everyday jobs. However it is actually going to be a kind of giant science park for robotics where all the scientists and engineers will work on robotics.

I think this is very exciting because with the vast investment behind this project some very cool robots are likely to be made. If the "Robot Land" as it has been dubbed proves to be a success you can be sure other such robot research parks will spring up around the world funded by other countries and companies keen to jump on the robotics band wagon.
